In 1987 Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Chestnut Hill Hospital in Northwest
Philadelphia joined forces in the fight against cancer. This partnership formed the
Jefferson-Chestnut Hill Radiation Oncology Center, which conveniently brings the top
cancer specialists and the latest in oncologic treatments and equipment from Jefferson to
patients living in Northwest Philadelphia and eastern Montgomery County.
The Jefferson-Chestnut Hill Radiation Oncology Center is staffed by the experienced
team of physicians from Jefferson's department of radiation oncology, along with
physicists, technologists and nurses trained at Jefferson. In addition, the Center
houses a six-megavolt linear accelerator which is used to treat most cancers, including
those of the head, neck, breast, lung, prostate, colon and rectum.
William T. Grizos, M.D. is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College
and completed internal medicine and radiation oncology training at Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital. He is board certified in both Internal
Medicine and Radiation Oncology. He also completed one year clinical
gastroenterology fellowship at Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania. As
an assistant professor, in the Department of Radiation Oncology at
Jefferson
from 1988 to 1991, his particular areas of expertise included
gastrointestinal malignancies and intraoperative radiation therapy. After
leaving Jefferson he pursued an additional clinical interest in the use of
microwave hyperthermia combined with radiation in the treatment of various
body surface tumors. Dr. Grizos' other interests include the establishment
and implementation of advance radiation oncology technology and services
for
local patient access. Dr. Grizos is a regular lecturer in Radiation
Oncology at the Gwynedd Mercy College. Since returning to Jefferson in
August of 1999, Dr. Grizos has assumed the position of Medical Director of
the Radiation Oncology Center at Chestnut Hill.
Having treatment at the Jefferson-Chestnut Hill Radiation Oncology Center offers
patients the advantage of being treated at a Thomas Jefferson University Hospital facility
without having to travel to the Center City.
