Annual Suntharalingam Lecture

In 1998, the physics group organized the first in a series of annual lectures honoring Nagalingam Suntharalingam. Dr. Suntha is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at TJU. Through his efforts extending over many years, the medical physics group and the department have gained major status within the radiation therapy community. This lecture series was established to recognize his contribution to the department. The lecture series invites renowned physicists and clinicians from around the world to talk about topics of interest to the Delaware Valley radiation therapy community. The first in this annual series of lectures was held on April 8, 1998. The inaugural speaker was Dr. James Purdy, Professor and Associate Director of the Radiation Oncology Center of the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Purdy’s lecture was titled "Technical Improvements in Radiation Therapy." The second presentation in this series will occur on May 5, 1999. The speaker will be Dr. Colin Orton, Professor and Director of Medical Physics, Gershenson Radiation Oncology Center, Detroit, Michigan, and the title of his talk will be "Radiotherapy for Cervix Cancer is Still Primitive and Needs to be Updated."
