The Jefferson Radiation Oncology Center at Riddle opened in November, 1999 as a cooperative effort between the Thomas Jefferson University Department of Radiation Oncology and Riddle Memorial Hospital. Located in the new Riddle Cancer Center, the facility offers the highest quality comprehensive cancer care available.

The Jefferson Radiation Oncology Center at Riddle is staffed by a highly experienced team of physicians, oncology nurses, technologists, physicists, and dosimetrists. The facility is equipped with a simulator, dual-energy linear accelerator with multiple-energy electron capability, and state-of-the-art 3-dimensional CT-based treatment planning. Patients have the option of participating in institutional and national cooperative investigational trials through the National Cancer Institute (NCI) recognized Jefferson Kimmel Cancer Center Network. 

In addition to Radiation Oncology services, the Riddle Cancer Center houses Medical Oncology consultation and treatment offices, an intravenous infusion suite, a patient and family community education center, and the Riddle Hospital Cancer Registry. The Center offers patient and family support sessions, community cancer screenings, dietary counseling, physical therapy and rehabilitation with special lymphedema treatment and prevention services, and access to cosmeticians for wigs, makeup and prosthetic devices.

Merrill J. Solan, M.D., Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at Thomas Jefferson, is Medical Director of the Jefferson Radiation Oncology Center at Riddle and Subdivision Chief of Radiation Oncology for the Riddle Hospital Department of Radiology. Dr. Solan received her medical degree at the Albany Medical College and completed residency training in Radiation Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University. She is board certified in both Pediatrics and Radiation Oncology. Prior to her current position at Riddle, Dr. Solan practiced Radiation Oncology at Lankenau, Mercy Fitzgerald and Mercy Philadelphia Hospitals and was on the teaching faculty in the Radiation Oncology Department at Hahnemann University. Dr. Solan has published in multiple Oncology journals and textbooks and lectures in Radiation Oncology both at Thomas Jefferson University and within the Delaware County medical community. Her major clinical interests include treatment of breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers.
