Interests: Lung cancer, new therapies, Brain tumors, new therapies including stereotactic radiosurgery (Gamma Knife and Linear Accelerator), Lymphomas and Hodgkin's Disease



Maria Werner-Wasik, M.D., is a Radiation Oncologist specializing in treatment of lung cancer, brain tumors and lymphomas. She is also an Associate Professor at Jefferson Medical College.

Dr. Werner-Wasik participates in a multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Clinic, where emphasis is on state of the art management of patients with lung cancer with strong preference given to enrollment of patients on clinical studies. With regard to brain tumors, Dr. Werner- Wasik is part of the multidisciplinary Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Radiotherapy Program at Wills Eye Hospital/Jefferson, which treats patients with a dedicated linear accelerator or Gamma Knife. She is Principal Investigator of one of the clinical protocols, proposing to treat patients with metastatic melanoma and renal carcinoma brain tumors with stereotactic radiosurgery without whole brain radiation therapy. Dr. Werner-Wasik is also part of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program, where she is responsible for supervising total body irradiation regimens.

Dr. Werner-Wasik is a member of several professional societies, including American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American College of Radiology and Massachusetts Medical Society. She is the recipient of the Young Oncologist Travel Grant from the American Radium Society. Recently she has been awarded a grant from Alza Corporation to conduct clinical research in lung cancer.

Dr. Werner-Wasik is board-certified in radiation oncology and internal medicine. She completed her postgraduate training in radiation oncology at Tufts University in Boston and University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
