Tailgate for the Cure
The Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson was the chosen beneficiary for the proceeds from The Tailgate for the Cure at Citizen Bank Park on September 13th. Chris Booker, of the Q102 Booker Show, as a Friend of the Kimmel Cancer Center, organized the VIP pre-game reception with Michael Harris the Marketing director of the Philadelphia Phillies.
The VIP reception featured the Philllie Phanatic on his infamous quad bike, Smiley the Pig from Hatfield Quality Meats, The Phillies Ball Girls, and The Phillies own outfielder Shane Victorino signing autographs for fans. The event was proudly sponsored by Chevrolet and Hatfield Quality Meats. The VIP guests were given information about breast cancer, care at the Kimmel Cancer Center and Pink Ribbon pins. Guests also were able to meet radio personality, Chris Booker.
There were 500 tickets available to this special event, to raise awareness for breast cancer, and to support cancer research at the Kimmel Cancer Center. The tickets sold out in twenty minutes. The event was a huge success and a lot of fun for all involved.
During the fifth innings Dr Richard Pestell, the director of the Kimmel Cancer Center, along with radiation oncologist Dr. Richard Valicenti, and renowned breast cancer researcher Dr. Michael Lisanti, were recognized on center field for their contribution to cancer care and research by the 42,000 spectators, accompanied by the energetic Phillies Phanatic dressed as a Doctor, and Smiley the Pig, from Hatfield Quality Meats.
