Jefferson’s Kimmel Cancer Center Urology Chair Gomella On Men’s Health Magazine Top List for the “21st Century Man”

 

The April 2007 edition of Men’s Health Magazine featured it’s first annual list of physicians who have the “knowledge, the experience and the tools to maintain and repair the 21st Century man”. This special report, “Americas Top Doctors for Men”, identified a series of top specialists for men such as Urology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology and others. Dr. Leonard Gomella, the Bernard Godwin Professor of Prostate Cancer and Chair of Urology at Jefferson was acknowledged as one of the top 20 Urologists in the United States.

The criterion for inclusion in this Top Doctors listing involves surveys from physicians and medical leadership of top hospitals to determine among other criterion, who they would consult if a family member had a condition that required specialty consultation. Dr. Gomella has been on the faculty at Jefferson since 1988 and was appointed Chairman of Urology in 2002. In 2006, he was appointed Director of Clinical Affairs for the Kimmel Cancer at Jefferson.

Dr. Gomella, a well respected urologic surgical oncologist and known for many areas of academic and research activities, is best recognized for his contributions to the field of prostate cancer. Some of these include authoring the first book for the general public on the topic in 1993, pioneering the multidisciplinary approach to prostate cancer patient care, contributing to the design and implementation of multiple national and international clinical trials for prostate cancer and leading the clinical team that first identified a new molecular prostate cancer micro-metastasis blood test.
